U.S. Interior Secretary Urges Poles to Elect Trump Ally During Speech in Poland

The U.S. Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) held its first meeting in Poland yesterday. U.S. Interior Secretary Kristi Noem called on Poles to support Karol Nawrocki, an ally of President Donald Trump, in the upcoming second round of the presidential election, the Baltic News Service (BNS) reports on May 28 from Warsaw.

“We need you to elect the right leader,” said Kristi Noem, a prominent ally of Donald Trump, in a speech addressed to Poles. “You will become the leaders who bring Europe back to conservative values.”

Poland will hold the decisive round of its presidential election on June 1, in which Warsaw’s liberal, pro-European Union mayor Rafał Trzaskowski will face off against conservative historian Karol Nawrocki, who is skeptical of the EU.

Noem described Trzaskowski as “a complete failure as a leader” and portrayed Nawrocki as someone who would govern Poland in a style similar to Trump.

“I just had the chance to meet Karol, and listen: he must become Poland’s next president. Do you understand me?”

The U.S. Interior Secretary also suggested that Nawrocki’s election would strengthen relations between the two countries.

“If you elect a leader who works with President Donald J. Trump, the Polish people will have a strong ally who will ensure you can fight against enemies who do not share your values,” Noem said.

Presidential elections were held in Poland on 18 May 2025. As no candidate secured more than 50% of the vote, a second round will be held on 1 June 2025. Donald Trump's preferred candidate for the presidency is the ultraconservative Karol Nawrocki.

“You have strong borders, you protect your communities and keep them safe, and you ensure that your citizens are respected every single day,” she added. “You have a continued U.S. presence here, a military presence. And you have American-made equipment, which is of the highest quality.”

The U.S. currently has about 10,000 troops stationed in Poland as part of a mission to bolster the NATO member state, which is concerned about potential aggression from Russia.

“Donald Trump is a strong leader for us, and you have just as strong a leader in Karol—if you make him the leader of this country,” Noem added.

In his speech, CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp claimed that conservatives around the world are battling “globalists,” whom he described as enemies of faith, family, and freedom.

Schlapp emphasized that CPAC stood by Trump throughout all of his legal battles.

“When one of us is under attack, the rest of us must come to that person’s defense,” he said. “The globalists plan to take us down one by one—shaming us, silencing us, bankrupting us, destroying us, and turning our children against us.”

Schlapp stressed that this is why it is important to “win all these elections, including the one in Poland, which is so crucial to people’s freedom.”

The CPAC event was held near the city of Rzeszów in southeastern Poland, in the town of Jasionka. The region is staunchly conservative. Jasionka has also served as a key hub for the delivery of U.S. and Western weapons to Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale war against Poland’s neighbor more than three years ago.
